Sacred waters, stunning Temple - but don’t cosplay spirituality

点评：Tirta Empul is a UNESCO treasure — sacred springs, jungle air, centuries of devotion.
We did not participate in the water ceremony; we aren’t spiritual, and it felt more respectful to simply admire the temple’s beauty.
The contrast at the temple was stark. Worshippers gathered at prayer, incense curling in the air, their devotion communal and sincere. Meanwhile, in the waters, tourists queued to perform their theatre of vanity. Tattooed arms flexed into godlike poses, palms pressed together for the camera, eyes closed in instant “enlightenment” until the shutter clicked.
Yes, tourists are allowed to join. But just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
What’s spiritual about cultural appropriation staged for Instagram? The worshippers were there for faith. The tourists were there for themselves.
Tirta Empul deserves reverence, not hollow vanity masquerading as devotion.
We aren’t spiritual but we are respectful, by the look of it most of the tourists should have left their water based soul cleansing for the hotel shower.
