点评:We visited Jervaulx Abbey in the late afternoon on a day that had been chilly and rainy off and on. There were very few people visiting the abbey at that time which made it a nice, peaceful visit. The abbey ruin is extensive and well taken care of by its private owner. I can't imagine mowing around all those crumbling stone features. There is an abundance of wildflowers on the grounds and growing on the stones themselves which adds a wild beauty to the place. At the entrance to the abbey there is an informational display with a map of the ruins. We took a picture of the map and then spent a couple of hours wandering around, trying to match up features of the ruin to the map. We got rained on a time or two but between showers there was the most beautiful evening sunshine which, combined with the wildflower-covered abbey ruins, created a peaceful, ethereal atmosphere.
There is an honesty box for parking in the lot across from the abbey (1 GBP requested). The entrance to the abbey is also on the honesty box system (5 GBP per person requested). It is well worth a visit for history lovers!
