点评:The Alcazar of Seville is stunning, and even with the signage issues that certainly could be improved, it still absolutely merits 5 stars - for us at least.
I would strongly advise booking in advance, and also paying attention to what your ticket and entry instructions say. Our tickets included the upper floor royal chambers and came in at 42 euros for two. We went on a Thursday in early October. Given we entered at 10:00 and didn't leave until around 14:30 we'd view it as great value. Over 4 hrs likely puts up at the upper end of how long people spend there; however again if booking a late afternoon slot be aware that there is a lot to see and the palace will kick you out come closing down.
Our Upper Chambers tour was at 11:00, giving therefore a general site entry time of 10:00. We arrived maybe 20 minutes before that to see a queue snaking round the corner from the entrance for the 10:00 entry. However staff were checking tickets and those of us with an 11:00 Upper Chamber tour were ushered to start our very own queue, and were admitted at 10:00 on the dot, though not a second before.
They are strict on checking photo ID with your ticket, but seem flexible, or at least were for us, with what ID is required. We had for some reason determined that our passports - referenced on our tickets - would be better left in the safe of our hotel room, rather than brought with us to show with our tickets. However, driving licence and a UK railcard with photo were quite happily accepted.
Once in there is a lot to see and take in. We had a good feel for the palace so did not particularly need the audio guide. Much is truly spellbinding. The gardens are extensive, maybe not as lush in early October, as in the spring, but still very enjoyable to walk around. Far less busy than the palace, and the further in to them you get the fewer visitors you encounter - especially great for the toilets in the far right corner.
Upper chamber tour - is very restricted numbers wise. Accessed via the staircase in the top right corner from the main courtyard you come into from the entrance. It is strict in terms of time, it is limited in terms of number on each tour, it has strict security protocols, phones and all other possessions need to be left in lockers - one euro coin needed - and you will be scanned again. It is a hand held audio escorted by two security guards. Not super rushed, but equally a few extra minutes overall might have been nice. However 100% worth doing.
We did stop at the cafeteria which was busy and you need to be nimble to grab a shaded outside table. We only had a coffees which both tasted good and was not expensive. The queuing system would likely benefit from a "system" but I had a lovely chat with a lady from Alberta whilst we navigated the counter.
