If you are visiting Hanoi, booking a tour with HFTGS (Hanoi Free Tour Guides) is an absolute must. My experience with my guide, Mae, was the highlight of my trip.
HFTGS is a wonderful non-profit organization run by passionate university students who act as "Little Ambassadors" for Vietnam. Mae perfectly embodied this spirit. I had stayed up all night working on a project before the tour and was completely exhausted. Mae was incredibly observant and thoughtful—she immediately adjusted our itinerary to a much more relaxed and "easy" route so I could still enjoy the city without burning out.
We visited the serene West Lake, the historic Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, and the iconic Train Street. For lunch, she took me to try the authentic Hanoi Turmeric Fish (Cha Ca), and for dinner, we had a fantastic bowl of Chicken Pho at a local favorite spot.
Beyond the sights, what I cherished most was our conversation. Mae is very easy to talk to. Even though I was singing "oldies" that were way before her time (we had a good laugh about the age gap!), and I shared the romantic legend of the "White Snake" associated with West Lake—which she promised to look up later—the cultural exchange was priceless.

如果你来河内旅游,一定要参加HFTGS(河内免费导游)的旅行团。
