点评:The National Rome Museum is now spread across four venues around the city, including Palazzo Massimo near Termini Station. Opening hours are 9.30am to 7pm daily, closed on Tuesdays. Entry is now €15 per person which includes entry to all four of the National Rome Museums within one week of purchase. The other venues are Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, and the Baths of Diocletian.
The collection at the late 19th-century Palazzo Massimo is very impressive. You will find floors filled with ancient sculptures, excavated mosaics and wall frescos that are in remarkable condition and state of preservation.
The 'Boxer at Rest' iron sculpture on the ground floor is one of my personal favourites in Rome. The Ermafrodito Dormiente' Hermaphrodite sculpture and Sarcophagus of Portonaccio are two other highlights I really enjoy seeing at the museum. The Villa Farnesina and Villa of Livia frescos are so interesting to view and learn about as well. All in all, I believe we spent just over 2 hours viewing the museum collection at Palazzo Massimo this time around. You can visit in an hour or less if willing to make way through the collection at a faster pace or give yourself 3+ hours if you like.
