Staunton River State Park - A newly discovered gem!

点评：My wife and I stayed in a cabin from June 4 to June 8, 2026. The cabin was recently upgraded. It was very comfortable, clean and affordable. All equipment worked well (esp. A/C). The cabin was about $125/night. We walked most of the River Bank trail. We kayaked on both the Dan and Staunton river sides. We saw and heard much wildlife including: bald eagle, osprey, heron, egret and numerous song birds. We enjoyed the sandy point at the confluence of the two rivers. The ranger station loans telescopes (free) which worked well but we spent most of our stargazing time with an experienced ranger who showed us galaxies, Jupiter's largest moons and many other astronomical sights. The rangers took us on an owl walk. There was also a guitar/banjo musical duet performing Saturday night and it was pleasant hearing them in the beautiful outdoors. The gift shop was well stocked with fair priced gadgets, supplies, memorabilia, and snacks. We bought a park T-shirt, astronomy book, woven blanket and laser for pointing out interesting sky views. The whole park had a family feel. It was not overcrowded. The park was clean and well maintained. The rangers were extremely kind and helpful during our visit, and we can't thank them enough for a great time!
