Good multi-peak walk
Mourne Mountains的点评
点评：I took a route that I couldn't find specific information about online, it was:
1. Ott Car Park (parked 8am on a Friday, plenty of space)
2. Slieve Doan
3. Walk from Slieve Doan to the stile between Meelmore and Bearnagh
4. Up the Mourne Wall to the top of Bearnagh
5. Down the same way back to the stile and up the Mourne Wall the other way to Meelmore
6. From Meelmore to Meelbeg
7. From Meelbeg to Loughshannagh
8. From Loughshannagh back to the Ott Car Park (return 12.30pm, folks parking on the road by this point).
So that took me 4.5hrs, though I walk fast.
In terms of rating the views:
1st - Bearnagh
2nd - Doan
3rd - Loughshannagh
4th - Meelbeg
5th - Meelmore
Meelmore summit is cute because of the Mourne Wall shelter up there, but its really not adding much to the views and I think could be skipped, so could Meelbeg really if you are doing the rest. By contrast, Loughshannagh is quite an easy quick climb but has better views I think than Meelbeg or Meelmore.
I've written a separate review for Bearnagh, the views from that are great, though on this route it is VERY steep following the Mourne Wall to get up and down. Some mild scrambling at the top.
Doan is a nice peak and could be a good intro one with kids.
A section I liked was from Doan to the stile between Meelmore and Bearnagh - whilst on the peaks you can always see civilisation, on this section you are down between the peaks and surrounded by them with no signs of civilisation anywhere (other than the Mourne Wall). Its a peaceful section, surrounded by nature. Good conditions underfoot - though it had been a very dry spring.
Overall, well worth doing, I thought.
