Parrots, parrots, parrots !!!

点评：This was out of season so quiet, but staff were taking the opportunity to refurbish animal and bird housing. Marvelous collection of different types of parrots and other birds, many ex unwanted pets, over 1000 in total but divided by type. Many of the birds are in poor condition when they arrive so they have to be quarantined, assessed and treated before they can join the main collection. it was interesting to see this process in action and there was a good explanation of how this worked. there was a a couple of walk through aviaries, for budgies, and parrots. There is a warning about removing jewelry before entering the parrot aviary as they are thieving little devils so be warned ! We'd removed jewelry but within seconds they had the buttons off the tops of our peaked caps, plus a pin badge.... and nearly had my partner's hearing aid. There are other animals too, including meerkats, otters and tigers. All animals looked well cared for with fresh bedding and food, although we felt very sorry for the solitary lion who had recently lost his brother (I think) and was roaring rather sadly. Other facilities include a gift shop and nice cafe. Overall enjoyed our visit, staff were happy to stop and explain things, and we would go back when in the area.
