Fun visit to Torbay with Solos Travel
Agatha Christie Mile的点评
点评：A friend and I had such an enjoyable 3-day, 2-night stay at the Mecure Hotel in Paignton and learnt such a lot about Agatha Christie’s links to the Torbay area. What made the trip a real treat were our tour guides, Robin from Solos Travel and Graham The Guide. Both men took great care of our group of 12 and kept us well entertained despite very challenging weather.
We visited caves which Agatha and her 2nd husband Max had explored looking for fossils and enjoyed a cream tea amid much teasing about the difference between how to apply cream and jam in Devon as opposed to Cornwall.
It was interesting to see the church she regularly attended when she was in the area and we learnt her wealthy American father paid for the building to completed shortly before she was baptised there.
There is so much to learn about this multi-talented woman and how her various life experiences equipped her to become the crime writer whose works are still read and enjoyed by so many readers. There is a huge Agatha Christie celebration in September every year, attended by people from far away places. Book early if you are interested wax the tip from both our guides.
The food and service at the hotel was everything one would expect from a four-star establishment - nothing like Fawlty Towers, the TV sit-com, which Graham also specialises in. He gave a few extra bits of information on that topic during our tour.
If the weather hadn’t included intermittent rain squalls we might have done as some of the rest of the group did and extended our stay.
