The short walk to the stock yards in the crisp morning air accompanied by rabbits scampering and swooping Rosella with their brilliant red contrasting to the whiteness of the frost and the steamy breath of the horses rising upwards, well...you really could not have started the day any better. The horses were well trained and, mine in particular, although he was a bit of a giant of a horse, had the most gentle and placid temperament. Over the three days we rode through bush, up steep hills, through creeks, over farm land and down very steep hills (some how the gradient seemed much greater going down than up). Fellow deer dashed past as we rode through the bush. Kookaburra and what sounded like Whip Birds, greeted us down in the valley. I did not see any wombat waddling about, but their conspicuous burrows were an obvious give away to where they were sleeping the day away. The kangaroo and wallaby were unfazed by the horses, looping casually past us only a few metres away. At times it did feel as though I was in a Disney movie. We rode to the highest point on the property. The panoramic view was breath-takingly beautiful.
I can not fault the staff in any way. All were friendly and welcoming and all very experienced working with horses. Jacob and Dave were such calm and patient guides. They seemed to know when I needed assistance before I did. Max entertained us all at meal times. My stomach muscles hurt from laughing so much. All the staff had a genuine love of horses which was very evident in their interactions and care and attention they gave them.
I highly recommend the Snowy Wilderness horse riding experience.
