Osborne House的点评
点评：We last visited Osborne House in 1977 so it was about time we had another look, and it didn't disappoint! As with most English heritage properties, you get to wander through the house at your own pace, and there are guides in many of the rooms who willingly offer up snippets of extra information about the rooms, paintings, exhibits, Queen Victoria, her descendants and what happened to the house after her death. The ceiling in the Durbar Room is incredible, and there are many other artefacts in the room which celebrate Queen Victoria's love of all things related to India. You also get to see the private dining room, as well as the nursery and Queen Victoria's bedroom and bathroom and the hand-pulled lift used by the Queen in later life. Be warned that there are a lot of stairs in the house, and although there is a lift for people with limited mobility, there are limits on what you can see if you have mobility issues.
The gardens immediately outside the house are tremendous, with a huge collection of trees from around the world commissioned by Prince Albert, and there is also a walled garden, and some lovely walks to the private beach and Swiss Cottage, where the royal children learned to grow their own vegetables, and where visitors can learn what happened to Victoria and Albert's many children. There is a little bus that takes people to the beach and Swiss Cottage, and a small play area for young children at Swiss Cottage.
There are a number of food and drink options - in the house, at the beach and at Swiss Cottage, although not a huge number of tables to eat at. On a budget, you could bring a picnic to eat in the grounds or at the beach. You'll need at least 2-3 hours and could easily spend most of the day here.
