点评:The friendly welcome from the staff as you walk through the doors is a nice start to your visit.
I would suggest you purchase a guide book if it’s your first time as the museum is spread over 5 floors and if you’re looking for a specific thing then it can get a bit confusing without one.
There are so many exhibits that to view them all will take quite a while so I would plan your day carefully. Saying that it is quite a remarkable place and I must admit we never got to see everything but all that means is we can always go again. It’s free so all you have to do is book your time and turn up.
There is a multi floor car park within 200 yards so actually getting there by road and parking is not a problem.
There is a cafe on the ground floor which was clean and tidy and the food was good as well.
The area around the museum is very open plan with a large square in front and a nice canal area down one side, which is accessible from the cafe on the ground floor.
It is a very enjoyable day out.
Now the bits we found that weren’t up to scratch.
The big issue that we found was the lighting within the display cabinets. The information cards with the description of the exhibits sometimes were unreadable because it was so dark in the cabinets. I do understand that certain things should not be exposed to strong lighting but there must be a better way of making the information more readable. Also they ask you not to use flash photography, understandable, but some exhibits after taking a photo just came out black. Being the wrong side of sixty we both thought it was us but there were a lot younger people who were suffering the same issues.
The only other thing that was an issue was the toilets, or lack of them. The ones on the ground floor were in constant use so they were in a bit of an untidy state added to that the ones on the second floor weren’t working. Hopefully they would have had them fixed asap.
It is a great day out and we are already planning our next visit.
