点评：We were disappointed by this garden which we visited at the end of June. The Walled Garden is structurally interesting, with tended vegetable areas but the arched walkways were mostly bare of plants. The main perennial flowerbed was a jumble of a large number of plants, apparently thrown together to live or die, with no sense of purpose, or knowledge of the horticultural needs of the various plantings.
Most of today’s visitors sought out the Rose Garden which was truly disappointing as there were few roses in flower to be seen. The roses here are old varieties which need dead heading to prolong their single flowering period. No dead heading (or indeed much weeding) had been done so they were all over by the end of June. It was a mess. There is a herb garden interestingly shaped by parterre but unfortunately not containing many herbs.
