The splendour of Winchester
温彻斯特教堂的点评
点评：A simply incredible and stunning cathedral!! It was our first time here (visiting from Canada), and we've visited other cathedrals on past trips to UK, but we always find it refreshing and interesting to see new ones...we can't really compare...but this one stands out (literally) as being the longest medieval cathedral in Europe, and it certainly showed. We walked around it about three times, just to take it all in, admire the intricate carvings, inscriptions, and stained glass panels. We received a free (included with admission) guided tour from a very informative member of staff, so we learned plenty about the effects of the English Civil War, the tomb of Jane Austen, and the famous / hero diver behind the Cathedral's stability. Near the end of our time there, we went through this series of exhibits on the Winchester Bible (incredible accomplishment for the time!) as well as the socio-political history of various peoples through ancient Winchester.
