Winchester Cathedral Tower Tour - Fantastic Views of Winchester!

点评：I've been visiting Winchester Cathedral for over 25 years now and I really love this amazing place of history and worship. Yet, in all this time, I'd never done the Tower Tour before. I happened to be near the Cathedral just before a tour and was fortunate enough to find that it wasn't full.
It's not for the faint-hearted. Lots of narrow spiral steps as you climb up and rather tiring, but it's really worthwhile. You get to see look over the South Transept and the Kings and Scribes Exhibition. You see the belfry and below this the bell ringing chamber which is a surprisingly big space. The best part for me was going to the top of the tower and seeing the lovely views of Winchester and its local area. On the way down, you walk the length of the nave, but directly above the stonework. It was a strange thought that we were above the Cathedral's beautiful vaulted ceiling.
We had two guides, Martin and Sarah who were very knowledgeable, interesting and very considerate of us as visitors. I really appreciated their input.
The cost per participant is currently £18, but this does include entry to the rest of the Cathedral. It might seem pricy, but for many it would be a once in a lifetime experience - you even get a printed certificate at the end of the tour!
To avoid disappointment, I would recommend booking in advance. Full details of the tour and a few photos can be found on the Cathedral's website.
