点评:We spent 3 hours at Stirling Castle on 23/10/26, a very wet day and whilst it was a fairly interesting visit, it was marred by the fact that for those with mobility issues, it is really appalling. There are cobbles pretty much everywhere so they make walking more difficult, but add to that the sloping nature of those cobbles and NO HANDRAILS anywhere, in wet weather these create an absolute nightmare for anyone with mobility / balance issues. So much more could have been done such as installing handrails on the outside walls / wooden walkways across the cobbles with handrails either side. In addition, my father came to visit the regimental museum, but found himself limited to the ground floor as he was unable to ascend the stairs to the 1st and 2nd floor. And yet there was space for a shop and a storage area on the ground floor. There are already 3 other shops in the castle so is a shop on the ground floor of the regimental museum really necessary? Why can’t that area be used to house some of the collection from the 1st and 2nd floor?
I understand that Historic Scotland wants to preserve the authenticity of the castle, but there are solutions to these problems, and I think that as much of the castle has already been restored, why not add a few things to make it open to more people, not just the more able bodied?
