Good evening visit, but long queues and limited helpful signage

点评：We booked the Wednesday evening slot at 5:30pm. Although the museum closes at 9pm, they begin clearing rooms from 8:30pm.
We arrived at 5:10pm, but the two earlier time slots still had long queues, so we ended up waiting outside in the rain for about 30 minutes - pack coats and umbrellas!
We followed the free guided tour on the Le Walk app, which I would recommend. The museum itself is very difficult to navigate due to limited helpful signage. The tour made it easy to find the French and Italian paintings and sculptures, but once it ended and we tried to locate Napoleon’s Apartments and the Egyptian section, it felt like a maze.
The viewing system for the Mona Lisa lacked organisation. A single-file queue would work much better. Instead, it was very crowded, with people pushing forward and some staying at the front for a long time. That said, after entering the room at 5:50pm, I reached the front in under 10 minutes, which wasn’t too bad - you just need a bit of patience.
Level 2 was shown on the map, but the lift button for this floor didn’t work. It may have been closed due to ongoing repair work, but there was no signage or information, which added to the confusion.
We spent 3 hours in the museum, and that went quickly. As 3 art students with a real interest in the subjects we had to walk past A LOT of stuff, just taking things in at a glance. If you are someone who likes to really understand and read about artefacts then you will need to factor in more time. We had a lot to fit into our 2-day itinerary as a first trip to Paris, so 3 hours in an evening was an efficient way to slot this in.
