Really nice January day out, good could have been better but we saw some great animals and had a nice day.

点评：I had been wanting to return to the Colchester Zoo for a while and had a great day out. We timed our visit well and we got a nice day in January which warmed up around 12pm and allowed the animals to almost all come out which was nice.
We saw almost everything we wanted to. The hippo enclosure was closed off which was sad as I love seeing them. In terms of flat out closures for maintenance, I think that was all. We saw the red pandas out front and centre which was a nice surprise. We went on the train through the zoo for the first time which was really nice to do and we got to see the wolves from every angle this way.
The food, as vegetations was a major let down. They served breakfast for veggies but that was all really. I got to the only open cafe they had, saw they served toasties only to the be told they all contain meat - which considering all that has to be done is remove the ham this was a big let down. I didn’t want to spend £4ish on a cold cheese and onion sandwich, I wanted a hot lunch. We also spent a while bouncing between all the closed cafes as they all said, “this is closed go here” which we did, only for that cafe to say “this is closed too, go here” and so on until we eventually asked a staff member at the start where to go.
