点评:I've always wanted to visit Tintagel and it certainly didn't disappoint. I loved walking around the ruins and imagining it as it used to be - with the help of the detailed information boards. I felt it had a special vibe. I especially loved the Gallos statue on the cliff, and was delighted to be able to purchase a large version of him from one of the two shops. There's a shop at the entrance and exit. The shop at the exit is larger and has a new Dark Ages exhibition attached to it. There's also a cafe and toilets at the exit. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Merlin's Cave was another thrilling highlight for me. It's on the beach and runs underneath the castle. One could certainly imagine Merlin living there. Tide times are displayed in the shops and information booth, but you can also ask staff. Tintagel felt like a magical place to me and I'll never forget my visit. I highly recommend it.
NOTE: I advise taking the shuttle bus from the exit back to the entrance. It saves a steep 15min walk up the cliff and only costs £2 per person and £0.50 pence for dogs. You don't have to wait long.
NOTE 2: The slope from the entrance down towards the castle is steep, but it's even steeper climbing back up! The shuttle bus doesn't go that far. There's a much needed bench at the top, opposite the entrance! 😂
NOTE 3: There are some steep steps down the cliffside to the exit. There's a handrail, but take care as they are slippery - especially in wet and windy weather as it was on our visit.
NOTE 4: Take care when exploring Merlin's Cave as there are seawater pools in there and the rocks are slippery. There's only so far you can go safely in, which will be obvious when you are there. The steps down to the beach are steep and were slippery on our visit. At the bottom of the steps, you have to climb down some rocks (and back up again afterwards) in order to get to the beach itself. These were also slippery.
