点评:Moving experience ! Thoroughly enjoyable visit - so good that 5 hours wasn’t long enough to see everything so I had to go back for 3 hours the next day !! It was fantastic to be taken on a tour by an ex-miner from that mine who was thoroughly clued-up on mining science, technology and culture ( Sunday 8th Feb ) and put everything across in a very understandable, personable way. Entering “The Dry” ( miners’ showering / changing / locker room ) was the most moving part of my visit, possibly heightened by the deafening silence of being there alone in a space that would have been filled by a cacophony of human activity, laughter & banter when the hundreds of miners passed through each day.
For anyone interested in heritage and industry who likes to see and touch real objects in their original setting rather than just on a screen must visit Geevor and allow plenty of time to see everything. The views over the sea below which many miners riskily toiled are amazing as well.
The café is outstanding as well - try a local ale, like the miners would have supped to quench their considerable thirsts !!
