点评:Don't be put off this trip if you are scared of the dark /tunnels. The tour lasted 90mins and only the final 10 mins involved going underground and it was a short tunnel just under the surface.
You need to book this tour in advance. We had a 6 and 8 year old with us so we parked at the actual mine although all the information and signs instructed us to park at the next mine along the coast. We were visiting in February so this was fine. At a busy time of year I don't think you could do this.
There are toilets at the site.
The tour started in some sheds above ground where we were given interesting information about the historical context of the tin and copper mine. Then, still above ground, we went to look at the beam engine which is the only surviving one of its kind in the world. We saw it working and heard about its history. This all lasted about 75 mins before we went underground for a very brief interlude.
The tour was very interesting for my husband and myself. The 8 year old just about coped with the information he heard. The 6 year old was very bored.
The guides were very knowledgeable and did a fabulous job at bringing the historical context to life. David and Ollie were two of the guides and I didn't catch the 3rd one's name.
There was a child friendly tour the previous week to fit in with Cornwall half term but sadly not the week we visited. I recommend the tour for adults with an interest in local history.
