点评:The "Divine Jewels" exhibition at the V&A is very small and easy to miss, although it is advertised by the museum - if not in a big way. It displays part of the Albion Art Collection, as it's doubly misleadingly called - a contemporary private collection assembled by a Japanese collector named Kazumi Arikawa. It's nothing like the famous Cartier exhibition recently, i.e. with catalogue, entrance fee, and gift shop, but:
It is a subdisplay *inside* the Jewelry collections, and not separately signaged inside or outside. So if you want to see it, look for the "JEWELRY" signage and follow it. Inside that room (ground floor; it is basically a gigantic safe), there is an S-shaped vitrine in the middle towards the end (after the spiral staircase to the upstairs jewels), and inside this, with no extra signs either, are the Arikawa jewels - plus some in vitrines just around it. It's a bit weak, but it's worth it.
Why? Because the items are brillantly displayed, and as most are diamond jewelry, that makes sense. :-) No heavy crown jewels, and no ancient pieces, but an exquisite collection especially of tiaras (the kokoshnik in the picture is just great), a dazzling brooch, a Faberge original pagoda, orientalist and slightly scary but very large for objects like these, and so on.
This is a good size as you can focus and take it in - of course it's crowded as the jewelry collection always is, but it's free and these are pieces that talk to the (interested) visitor. For jewelry aficionados, a nice special trip to the V&A; if you are not, just use the chance to look at the collection and enjoy it, perhaps.
