点评：After landing at Baltra which is the primary entry point for most traveling to the Galapagos by air, you will need to catch a bus for $5 that will bring you to the ferry that crosses the Canal de Itabaca to the main island of Santa Cruz. It is a 10 minute ride on the ferry and it costs $1. It is all a bit cumbersome and there is some unnerving organized chaos at the ferry dock but it is also very wonderful. It is a jolt to the senses and a reminder that you are somewhere very unique and far from home. Near the ferry dock will be your first chance to possibly see your first wildlife including sea birds, sea lions, sea crabs, stingrays and marine iguanas. Riding across the blue waters of the channel on one of the varied small boats that are used is an introduction to the adventure that awaits. Despite what looks like chaos, it is actually well organized and they have a system ensuring that you will be reunited with your luggage that was collected and tossed on the roof of the boat before making the crossing. Once across the channel, you can catch a taxi costing $30 for up to 4 people that will take you on the 30 minute ride to Puerto Ayora or you can ride the public bus costing $5 but it only leaves hourly and it is about an hour ride. Your taxi driver will likely try to talk you into a tour of one of the tortoise ranches as you drive through the Highlands region. This may be well worth doing as it is an efficient way to include this experience while on the island if you have the time and have no other plans made on the day of arrival.
