I visited the Museum of Northern British Columbia while exploring Prince Rupert. The museum has a large collection of artifacts and displays covering thousands of years of First Nations history and culture in the region, including traditional clothing, tools, artwork, salmon, and information about how various items were made and used.
One of the highlights for me was the beautiful totem pole displayed inside the museum. There are also several rooms with additional historical exhibits and a small theatre area where visitors can watch films. The film playing during my visit was about the people involved in building the railway.
The museum itself also has lovely views over the harbour. I was able to see the cruise ship in port from the building, which was an unexpected bonus.
There is a very nice gift shop as well, with a good selection of locally themed items. I bought four small spirit stones featuring an eagle, hummingbird, butterfly and healing hands, which made lovely and meaningful souvenirs.
The displays are detailed and informative, so anyone interested in the history and Indigenous cultures of northern British Columbia would probably find plenty to explore here.
