Run down, pushy shopkeepers at the market scared us away, but Miguel and the manatees almost made up for it

点评：We attended “Chakanaab Day Pass + Manatees + Lunch and Drinks”. First we grouped at the pier, met Miguel, our tour guide who was a pleasure throughout the day, and only gently and respectfully mentioned the opportunity for tips at the end of the day - so of course we did!
In the park, there is a big stretch of beach, the dolphin and manatee sections in the water, and a few restaurants.
We had lunch included and went to the buffet - the food was honestly terrible - soggy, very few options.
We walked around the market area as we were keen to buy some souvenirs, but were getting harassed to go into the market stands and restaurants. Uncomfortable, we turned away and didn’t end up going into any.
Next up was the manatees, which you should put your name down on the list as soon as you arrive to get a suitable time slot. We went into the enclosure and stroked the manatees. The experience said we would get to feed them, so we asked a few times and we were allowed to. (Better to ask - I didn’t see anyone else get the chance, and instead watched the instructors feed them lettuce.)
The sea lion show was short, but really cute! The instructors seemed to have a connection with the animals, but pls note the show was in Spanish.
In summary:
Yes - the shopkeepers are pushy, which made us feel uncomfortable.
Yes - it is quite run down, but I’m not sure there is anywhere better on the island.
Yes - the food is awful, don’t bother getting a package that includes food. Some other reviews mentioned some extra cost places that sounded better.
Yes - we still had a nice day out, and there are lots of varied things to do, but wouldn’t go again.
