Biggest travel disappointment ever, avoid the Old Port
Old Port of Montreal的点评
点评：I hate to say this, but the Old Port of Montreal was by far the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had with a destination.
I’ve traveled extensively around the world and had high expectations for Montreal, it has been on my bucket list for years. Unfortunately, the reality was the complete opposite of what I expected.
The harbor area felt neglected and dirty, with litter and waste piles in multiple places. Instead of a well-designed promenade, there are sections that feel unfinished or poorly maintained, with remnants of industrial structures that don’t appear to have been meaningfully redeveloped. The overall atmosphere was unpleasant, including strong odors in certain areas.
There were also visible social issues, including people openly using drugs, which made the environment feel uncomfortable rather than vibrant or culturally interesting. This isn’t about disliking edgy or alternative urban areas—I lived in Berlin for 10 years and am very familiar with that kind of environment—but this felt different: less like subculture and more like neglect.
The water itself didn’t help the impression either, appearing murky and uninviting...
Overall, instead of the lively, attractive waterfront I had expected, the Old Port felt run down and poorly maintained. It was a major letdown and not somewhere I would recommend based on my experience. The wheel just revealed even more of this disappointing city. Just don't go here.
