点评:Toronto has several great urban parks which are totally free to enjoy. I will not say Queen's Park is the largest or even the best. However, I will say it is likely to be the most interesting and you will probably want to see it during your visit. Here is why;
When Kings College (today University of Toronto) was founded in 1825, the institution purchased three lots of farmland on the far norther edge of the city totaling 170 acres. Twenty years later, the University by that time was growing but utilized a minimal portion, and there was a need to find a home for the Parliament of Upper Canada (today Ontario). A building of the University was taken for that purpose. Between the needs of the Province of Upper Canada (Ontario) and the growing needs of the city, the city negotiated a 999-year lease with the University to take the 42 most eastern acres for a green space park. In 1860 a beautiful green space on the northern end of the city was created for Toronto's citizens and it was dedicated by the Prince of Wales, Edward VII, in honor of his mother Queen Victoria, hence the name Queen's Park. In 1879, the legislative home need for the Province of Ontario was solved by taking a part park for that purpose and the building that stands today for that purpose was completed in 1892.
Today the actual park (because the Legislative Building is often referred to as Queen's Park) is a beautiful green space park with massive trees and the beautiful Parliament of Ontario and its accompanying statues. We visited the park on a morning walk through the northern portion of the Downtown that included the University of Toronto. It was a beautiful morning with few others in the park, great for pictures, especially of Edward VII riding his horse in the center of the green space. An additional bonus is that the recent campus buildings around the park are some of the most forward designs in the city and very interesting to see as well. Again, it will not be the primary reason you came to Toronto, but it will be a quick visit you will want to see while here.
