点评:Free on Days Open Ottawa, this ornate home in Sandy Hill was home to two Prime Ministers. First we went to the adjoining visitor services building in the old carriage house where we saw an excellent video about Wilfied Laurier and William Lyon MacKenzie King and a room of artefacts. The real draw is the house itself. The ground floor has three rooms, one of which (Lady Laurier's salon) could be sat in. There is an ornate staircase and two more floors. Some of the rooms reflect the days of the Lauriers but most are about King. His library is my favourite room. One sees how life changed over the decades and the improvements and alterations that King installed. Alas, the kitchens are still off limit to the visitor as are King's War Rooms and King's Seance Room by his library (I overheard that restoration keeps being delayed by peculiar happenings). Around the house is the veranda that King had extended - come here and then rest awhile under the awning shade and have the afternoon tea that is now on offer (on other days) or take the guided tour!
