Englishman's bay, Tobago: Paradise on Earth

点评：Englishman's Bay, 2 miles beyond Castara on Tobago's winding Northside Rd., has to be one of the most fabulous beaches on earth. The picture-perfect glimpse from the hill above as you approach is just a taster. Half a mile further on, you turn left down the (marked) short, bumpy-bone-crunching 100yd approach road which leads you to the ample and usually quiet car park at Eula's (green) beach restaurant with - beyond - the stunning tropical palm-bedecked sugar-sand beach. A meal for two at Eula's costs about £16. I could lounge at a table overlooking the beach listening to the ocean for hours. Eula, the hostess, is welcoming and wonderful. There's a small craft shop and sun loungers available at 50TT. (9TT to the £ at the time of writing). In all the 10yrs I've been visiting, the beach has never seemed crowded and the bay is quiet and jet-ski free. It's about 400yds. wide and "typically tropical" with palms swaying in the breeze and pelicans diving for fish in the sea. There's a small reef to the right of Eula's. The sea is great for paddling and swimming and safe for accompanied children - with two important provisos: firstly, there's a pretty steep slope into the water which can catch you unawares; secondly the sea on occasions can be rough. So be careful.
If you like a busy beach with company, music, sea sports and boat trips Tobago's lively South West corner with Crowne Point, Store Bay and Pigeon Point is more for you! But as you travel further north and east along the coast beyond Plymouth the atmosphere becomes slower, less busy, more relaxed which leads you to our favorite resort (plenty of accommodation!) - Castara. To truly explore Tobago it's best to hire a car. If you do I think you'd be a fool not to visit Englishman's Bay.
