点评:I found the Vancouver Museum puzzling and confusing in its lack of anything that resembles a museum that belongs to a city of 2.4 million. We visited Vancouver in the middle of winter as a stop-over on a skiing holiday, for 3 nights. We arrived just as they were having some of the coldest days of the year. Hence we had to look for something to do inside. Having two children aged 10 and 12 we thought going to the Museum of Vancouver would be a safe bet and we could learn more about the city. We are falling in love with Canada so it pains me to write a negative review but I remain more puzzled than disappointed. This museum has a very disappointing entrance way with a dis-interested staff member. There is no cafe or shop, so don't go there expecting to have lunch or coffee (as we almost did!) The view over to the city was lovely from the windows. It did have an interesting exhibit about refugees in the city which was thought-provoking and did have some history about where the city has come from but then had an exhibit about the ages which seemed a little irrelevant but fun non-the less. I see there is a Museum of Anthropology and a Science Museum (both of which we didn't go to), so maybe they are supposed to fill in the gaps for the city. There is obviously a history here regarding Vancouver's museum's that I am not party to, but, as a visitor the title of 'Museum of Vancouver', I feel, is misleading, as it suggests a lot more than it delivers, or the funding for this poor institution has been largely withdrawn by the city!
Later, on the way home, we visited the Auckland Museum, a city of 1.4 million, and it far outstripped the Vancouver Museum. I was also comparing it to Te Papa in Wellington and even our own Museum in Christchurch (currently closed due to renovation, but even in its original state outstripped the Vancouver Museum). All of these three museums are full of people, are buzzing and are obviously cared for by their respective cities, where I feel this poor museum is not!
