点评:So glad we made time for the Soumaya! That silvery hexagonal building is even cooler in person, and free entry makes it a must-add to any CDMX trip.
Pro tip: take the elevator to the top floor and walk your way down. The 6th floor has a skylight and is packed with sculptures, including the biggest Rodin collection outside of France. The Thinker, The Three Shades, the Gates of Hell — all here.
We also loved finding pieces we didn't expect: a stunning Camille Claudel marble, a dreamy Degas pastel, a huge Diego Rivera mural in the lobby, a powerful Siqueiros mural, and even a Salvador Dalí Alice in Wonderland. So much variety!
One unexpected highlight: a cabinet full of colonial Mexican Sacred Heart pieces — carved wood with silver adornments. We had bought a handmade Sacred Heart from an artisan family in Mercado de Coyoacán a few weeks earlier, and seeing the centuries-old versions of that exact craft tradition in the museum was such a cool full-circle moment. The art we brought home suddenly felt connected to something much older.
The collection mixes European masters, Mexican modern art, and decorative pieces. Not every piece is a wow, but you'll definitely find something that speaks to you.
Tips: Free entry. Closed Mondays. Plan at least 90 minutes — we did 2+ hours. Cafeteria downstairs (no food in galleries). Pair it with Museo Jumex right across the plaza.
Highly recommend!
