点评：A wonderful return to a very special place
We have been coming to Decugnano dei Barbi for many years, although yesterday was our first visit for about three years. Returning after that time was a real pleasure, and what struck us most was the wonderful continuity of the place, the welcome and, above all, the wines. It genuinely felt like a homecoming.
The setting, of course, remains quite extraordinary. The landscape and views across the countryside around the vineyard and towards Orvieto are beautiful, and the estate itself has a sense of history and character that makes it so much more than simply a place to taste wine. The old chapel used as the tasting room is particularly lovely and provides a wonderfully atmospheric setting for the experience.
Our visit was made especially enjoyable by Angelica, whose warmth, enthusiasm and knowledge were evident throughout. She has that rare ability to share a great deal of information without ever making it feel like a lesson. She brought the wines to life by explaining not only how they are made, but also the terroir, the history of the estate and the traditions that lie behind them. We came away with a much greater appreciation of what makes the wines of Decugnano distinctive.
And then, of course, there are the wines themselves. Having tasted them over a number of years, what impressed us most yesterday was their remarkable consistency. Not consistency in the sense of standing still, but a consistency of character and quality that speaks volumes about the care and attention that goes into producing them. To return after several years and find that same sense of identity and exceptionally high standards was particularly rewarding.
That, for us, is one of the great strengths of Decugnano dei Barbi. It is a place where the wine, the landscape, the history and the people all belong together. There is a genuine sense that maintaining quality and giving visitors a wonderful experience really matters.
We love Decugnano dei Barbi and would recommend a visit without hesitation, whether you are already familiar with the wines of Orvieto or are discovering them for the first time. For us, yesterday was a reminder of why we have returned so many times over the years — and we certainly won't leave it another three years before coming back.
