Midland Railway - Butterley的点评
点评：Oh dear!
This site has so much potential, but an obvious lack of money and, I suspect volunteers, mean that rather improving, this "attraction" seems to be going backwards. Too little jam spread much too thinly!
We used to bring our children here years ago but the site is in a much worse condition than it was 20 years ago - so much so that I don't think we will be returning any time soon.
A very large and expansive site but with stony paths so likely not push-chair or wheelchair friendly. On our last visit, the car park had more potholes than Sheffield's roads - more like the surface of the Moon.
The signal box, if open, is fascinating and the Matthew Kirtley Museum (also if open) is worth a look - but it isn't really an 'engaging' experience as you would find at other museums. Expect rows and rows of locomotives and rolling stock in various conditions from locomotives that look like they could be in running order to mere timber skeletons of historic railway carriages.
The overall impression of the Swanwick Junction site and the railway in general is of neglect and a desperate shortage of funds.
It is a great shame when you see what the likes of the Keighley and Worth Valley, The North Yorkshire Moors, The Severn Valley line and the Great Central can do.
