点评:I recently visited Gata — the heart of the historic Poljička Republika — with my hiking club, and the experience completely exceeded my expectations. Our storyteller was truly captivating; with warmth, humour, and deep knowledge, she brought to life the unique culture and remarkably democratic society that once thrived here. I was fascinated to learn that Poljica was governed by its own statute and people’s assemblies, and that some historians even suggest its social model may have inspired Thomas More’s vision of Utopia.
The highlight came after the storytelling, when we had a chance to try soparnik, the iconic Poljica dish. It felt like being transferred back in time — sharing stories, learning traditions, and tasting a piece of history straight from the wooden board. The atmosphere was relaxed, genuine, and full of laughter.
If you love history, culture, food, or simply authentic human connection, I cannot recommend this experience enough. My heart (and stomach!) left Gata full, and I’m already looking forward to returning.
