A fascinating piece of Potteries history

点评：I had a really enjoyable visit to Middleport Pottery on a rainy Wednesday morning. I started in the lovely Packing House Café, where I had some excellent oatcakes, before exploring the site.
I was welcomed by one of the volunteers, Phil, who, after I paid for the Heritage Trail, very kindly took me around and gave me what amounted to a personal guided tour. He was friendly, enthusiastic and hugely knowledgeable about Middleport, the pottery industry and the history of the site.
It made such a difference having someone who could bring the buildings, machinery and history to life, point out things I would otherwise have missed and answer my questions. The enormous bottle oven was particularly impressive and really gives you a sense of the history and scale of the pottery industry here. I came away feeling I'd got far more out of my visit than I would have done simply walking around on my own.
Middleport itself is a fascinating and atmospheric place. There are numerous small independent workshops alongside the main Burleigh operation, so it still feels like a living, working place rather than simply a museum.
Definitely worth a visit, and a particular thank you to Phil, who really made the experience for me.
