SOLD CROSS BORDER TRAVEL ‘UPGRADE’ AND REFUSED ENTRY TO TURKEY AND TYRE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED BLEW AFTER A FEW MILES

Along with a large number of other Aston Villa fans travelling to Turkey for the Europa Final, who were in the same predicament, we were sold the cross border travel and supplied all of the requested documentation days in advance, to obtain the supposed official documents, to enable us to cross the border into Turkey (this included details of our UK residence and UK driving licence). Despite this, the car was refused cross border entry and when we brought it to their attention their response was essentially that it wasn’t their problem. Furthermore, despite paying for the top insurance available, there was an excess on the tyres and wheels of €160 - within a few miles the tyre blew and all the evidence suggested there had been a previous tyre repair that had failed, the tyre fitter who turned up roadside agreed with this assessment, as did the border police who stopped to lend assistance and despite sending photo evidence of where the plug had been and the glue residue - again their complaints team refused to acknowledge any responsibility. We were sat roadside in a rural location for a couple of hours and we were made to pay the roadside tyre fitter ourselves (despite a large security hold on our credit card taken when we picked up the car). The tyre fitter did not accept cards so we ended up having to arrange an international bank transfer at the side of the road, late at night. Fortunately, we were a group of 4 males and I was not with my young family.
