Butterworth Railway Station的点评
点评：Cheapest way to get to the Penang train station in Butterworth: Penang ferry from Jeti: 2Rm. Most expensive way to get there: Grab + bridge toll. 60Rm plus depending on point of origin and time of day.
If you're encumbered, watch out. While most of the walkway from the ferry is both covered and smooth, some of it slopes upwards. There's a small section where you are obliged to carry your luggage up some stairs.
To get from the walkway to the platform level, there's a small lift, and when I say small, it doesn't hold more than 8 people with luggage and is weight sensitive.
There isn't anywhere to get a proper coffee or pick up food for lunch, so plan and take your lunch/snacks with you. There are some very unhealthy snack stalls along the way.
There are two ticket machines next to the barriers for last minute tickets (no discount) and there is scant and uncomfortable seating in the waiting area at the barrier. There is no help desk, and no-one to answer questions, so it's best to buy your tickets on-line to avoid queues and confusion!
The entry gate goes both ways (it serves as both entry and exit for arriving and departing passengers), so you're not allowed to enter the barrier before your train is announced and arriving passengers clear the barriers.
There are two little feet to tell you where to stand and present your QR code (app, photo or paper ticket). If you get too close, the barrier won't open.
If you're in a group, ensure all adults have their own QR ticket code so someone ahead of them doesn't scan their ticket by mistake.
