798艺术区的点评
点评：We visited the 798 Art Zone on our most recent visit to Beijing. This was a great experience. The story is a disused factory was converted into artist and gallery space. This has grown into a multi building art district with restaurants and shops in addition to studios and galleries. It has a large pedestrian zone and is very well done.
This is where I discovered “consumption seating.” Restaurants with tables along the sidewalk are letting you know if you sit down, you are expected to buy food or drink. We had lunch at a sidewalk cafe and simply watching the flow of people walking by was great.
This area attracts a diverse group of locals and tourists. It felt very safe when we visited during the day. We would do this again.
Are there negatives? I am not sure where the 798 Art Zone is located, but it took awhile to get there from the central business district.
