点评:The female volunteer who showed us around the mill really made the visit. From the early history of a cotton mill , touching on Quakers and even slavery, she took us on a journey through the Industrial Revolution . The mill changed from cotton to flax to wool and then became an important saw mill. There were demonstrations of turbines working and moving equipment, saws etc. Other dedicated volunteers were there oiling the machinery too. Social history was also explained, including some of the notable people involved. There was billeting of soldiers on the upper floor during world war 2 and tanks used during the evacuation of Dunkirk were put through their paces on the Mill pond. Regarding nature too, special care is taken to look after local crayfish in the beck and even robin and wren nests in the mill are treated with total respect. This tour took 2 hours and it was worth every minute! Thank you.
