点评：**My Experience with Papa Bear Adventures**
I want to share my firsthand experience with Papa Bear during a recent Alaska moose hunt. This is simply my experience and what I personally observed.
We booked our hunt with Renfro’s Alaskan Adventures. Before the hunt, several locals told us that Renfro had been operating in the area for many years, had a large number of repeat hunters, and was very familiar with the country. We also learned that Renfro spends extensive time flying the area and conducting game counts for Alaska Fish and Game. Based on everything we heard and experienced, we felt very confident in the area Renfro selected for us.
We were dropped into a remote area and initially had the kind of isolation we had hoped for on an Alaska moose hunt. There were plenty of bulls in the area, although many were smaller bulls.
Then Papa Bear flew over our camp and dropped hunters approximately **¾ of a mile away from us**. From our camp, we could see the pilot and hunters looking toward us through binoculars. A few days later, another Papa Bear group was dropped approximately **1–1½ miles south of us**. We could also hear shooting relatively close to our camp.
What was particularly frustrating was that after Papa Bear extracted hunters from the area, they subsequently dropped another group of hunters **right back onto the same lake**. For a remote Alaska hunt, having multiple groups concentrated that close together was extremely disappointing. We had traveled a long way and paid a considerable amount of money specifically to experience a remote hunt, not to have multiple hunting camps operating within a mile or so of us.
Our pilot had previously told us where Papa Bear typically put hunters, and based on what we witnessed, it appeared that Papa Bear was using some of the same productive areas that Renfro had identified. I cannot say how they selected our particular location or whether they were using another operator's locator information, so I don't want to speculate. However, the repeated proximity of their camps was very noticeable to us.
We also spoke with other hunters who expressed similar frustrations about Papa Bear putting hunters relatively close together.
To be fair, there were plenty of moose in the country, and despite the additional hunting pressure, **both hunters in our party ultimately harvested two very large bulls later in the hunt**. So this is not a complaint about the quality of the moose or the success of our hunt.
My concern is specifically about **hunter separation and the way hunting areas were being utilized**. In my opinion, dropping multiple groups within such close proximity takes away from the remote wilderness experience that many hunters are paying a substantial amount of money to have.
I'm sharing this because I would have wanted to know about this possibility before booking. This was our personal experience, and other hunters may have had a completely different experience with Papa Bear.
For us, the proximity of the camps was by far the most disappointing part of an otherwise incredible Alaska hunt.
