点评：Charming, old-fashioned, timeless and very, very beautiful. This is one of the most beautiful gardens we have visited, ever. The garden of an enthusiastic and passionate rose-enthusiast, whose green fingerprints are everywhere, clearly spending a lot of time in her garden. Romantic and steeped in atmosphere, this garden is beautifully designed but not over-designed and ‘corporate’ like so many public gardens. It is beautifully and sensitively maintained and has some lovely homely touches, with plants cascading,and even planted on, the path edges. While most of the historic roses had finished their annual flowering, there was more than enough colour, scent and interest to compensate in the elliptical Rose Garden, with a wonderful collection of pelargonium set out in the lean-to greenhouse. Don’t miss the delightful herb garden, secret garden and orchard, each in rooms with their own character, charm and colour pallet. Grass paths through the meadow give you fine views of the slowly-flowing river. And don’t miss the conservatory where, for a modest fee, a selection of teas and delicious home-made biscuits await, to be consumed on the sheltered lawns outside. Honesty boxes are the order of the day here, taking us back for just a few hours to a world where many of us might prefer to be…
