点评:This is a fascinating and first class museum. It doesn't replicate York's famous railway museum, but complements it, so you can do both and be equally impressed.
The huge main shed uses the opening of the Stockton & Darlington railway in 1825 as its starting point and main reference throughout, with Locomotion itself taking centre stage. The exhibition, with numerous locos and carriages, cover the best part of 200 years with just the right amount of info. There's a shop, and café serving light snacks. Helpful and knowledgeable staff throughout.
The so-called New Hall has an impressive display of rolling stock which focuses on how the railways have been used in industry during the past 200 years or so. Outside there are various exhibits, such as the fabulous Gaunless Bridge, and buildings dating back to the 1820s.
Free entry! And lots of free parking.
We spent such an engrossing day there.
