A hidden gem.
Lassen Volcanic National Park的点评
点评：Lassen is not crowded. It's a lesser visited little gem. If you camp there, or lodge nearby, there is plenty to see and do: trails, even to the top of Lassen Peak, meadows to just relax in next to clear, cool streams, active thermal spots, mountain lakes, and of course a visitors center.
If you want to hike the Bumpass Hell Trail, be advised, go in mid July to mid August, or check ahead to see if it's open. Otherwise snow covers it. I was there in June, and to my dismay, it was closed! But there are thermal vents further south of it that are right along the road. Not the same experience, granted, but still a nice "consolation prize."
Overall I loved Lassen Volcanic NP. It was beautiful, and different than other places I've been. There was one meadow that was right along the road that was so peaceful, and relaxing that people were just sitting in beach chairs enjoying it.
The roads are not for the "faint of heart," but then most of the western national parks that have mountains have the same type of roads. They twist and turn, and hug cliffsides, and few have guard rails, but unlike the Million Dollar Highway in Colorado, park roads aren't up close and personal to drop offs. There are shoulders and trees between you and going off a cliff. They really are fun and interesting roads and if you're not on your phone, you will be in no real danger. Just pay attention to your driving. Pull over to take pictures.
