Diving with seals. Great option for people without available dive buddies.

点评：Very well run dive operation for the bucket-list experience of diving in the presence of Atlantic Grey Seals, especially good for divers that don't have buddies available to dive with, and for full kit rental. (Dive clubs and schools offfer group trips to Lundy, but usually only once or twice a year which means that you have to schedule time off for a specific date, whereas Easy Divers offer several trips per week in the season.) Safety is treated seriously, but this is an experience that is open to anyone with Open Water Diving qualification, and if you don't have this but have the time, you can even get the qualification.
You collect your rental kit from one location in Ilfracombe harbour, which is unsigned, so you need to pay close attention to your welcome emails to know where to go. Departure is then from the other side of the harbour.
On arrival off the coast of Lundy, we were grouped according to experience, so the more experienced divers were not held back by the novices. However, the main areas where the seals come to interact are shallow, at about 2-4m deep, so the primary diving skill needed is good buoyancy control. The seals were so curious. Every interaction is on their terms, but on our dive they came to nibble fins, pat limbs, and gaze into eyes, making this into one of life's highlights.
Easy Divers kit out people renting in two wetsuits each, which works well in keeping out the cold, but does require a lot of weight to counteract the buoyancy of the extra shorty wetsuit. Fortunately, the charter boat has a lift to bring divers back out of the water, which is much easier than using a ladder when so heavily weighted. You can use as much of your own gear as you want, but you do need a lot of insulation for a dive where you may be an hour underwater with not much movement to generate heat, at a water temperature of 16-17 degrees.
