Great Cathedral, Worth a Detour to Visit

点评：Nidaros is a great cathedral and is worth a detour to visit. It provides a good combination of Romanesque and Gothic architecture with a wonderful west facade.
While the stained glass is lovely, it is not ancient as you find in cathedrals such as Chartres. But start with the windows and work your way around the nave. The transept, too, is worth examining, particularly as it is here that the two architectural styles meet. We liked walking behind the altar in the octagon and seeing the side chapels, and visiting the nice and somewhat unique chapter house (unlike British cathedrals, which usually have round chapter houses, the one here is a mini cathedral in shape). We also visited the crypt. We spent just under an hour but would have liked more. However, our ship only had a three-hour port call. Tip: if on a tight schedule, purchase your tickets online before arrival to afford more time to visit.
