点评:Being a Lancashire lad and living through the fifties and sixties I was exposed to a lot of the weaving industry. The complexity of the moving looms always fascinated me. When I saw advertised a taster course to experience 'weaving' I quickly enrolled. I later joined a small group of people at Queen Street Mill. We were each given a small wooden 'hand loom' and shown the rudiments of weaving. Not as complex as the giant steel variety of loom but it gave me a good idea of the art. For my effort I produced a small cotton 'handkerchief'. Afterwards, a friendly and professional loom operator gave me a tour of the factory and willingly answered my many questions. Two hours later (no time limit imposed) I ended my tour by enjoying a freshly made cuppa at the very adequate in-house cafe. Everyone at the Mill Museum were friendly and cheerful and made my visit a pleasant memory. For anyone remotely interested in how cloth is produced Queen Street Mill is the place to visit.
