点评:I had a great day with Andrés! I highly recommend him and advise you to put your itinerary in his hands. All I asked of him was to “Take me to Otavola market and maybe show me around the area.” He delivered tenfold!
Our first stop on the way to Otavola was the Museo Solar Quitsato in Cayambe, A quiet place off the tourist trail that also features an interesting agave garden in addition to the equatorial exhibits.
We then stopped at a family-owned bakery shop for bizcochos and coffee. We ordered a half dozen of those little savory biscuits, which arrived warm and were served with a side of dulce de leche and a mild local cheese. We ate them all over a nice conversation- What a treat that was!
From there we proceeded to Otavola where Andrés let me roam around the marketplace while he found a spot to park. I got to put my poor Spanish skills to work conversing with the mostly indigenous merchants and walked away with some nice ponchos, hats and other trinkets for my wife and daughters. That was a lot of fun!
After shopping we hopped in the car and drove a few minutes to the town of cotacacia for hearty lunch of grilled meats and fries. We walked off the meal by strolling around the quiet town, checking out the leather goods on display in the multitude of stores that line both sides of the street.
Our next and last stop was the beautiful Laguna Cuicocha. We spent some time there walking around the rim of the lake and just taking in the crisp mountain air.
Overall, it was a wonderful day. Thank you, Andrés!
