The guides can be good but don't have to be

点评：I WAS a tour guide for City Unscripted in Munich and tell you my first hand experience:
The problem is, that they DO NOT talk to you before or want any proofs that you know what you are doing. My new company needed 2 Zoom calls before they hired me and they pay me 3 times more!
The motto here is "Seeing the city like seeing it with a friend". Still the costumer pay for a "guide", not a "friend".
Here is another problem: After gaining experience here, I changed the company.
CU pays an hourly wage that is really, really, really low and it does NOT change with a higher number of guests!
So I earn the same, not matter if it's 2 guests or 10, but THEY do earn SO MUCH MORE with a higher number of guests.
I felt treated unfairly and was dependent on tip. Some guests gave 5€, one even 100€, most 10-20€.
I felt bad because I know they had paid so much for the tour already.
Sometimes they pay a "transportation fee", which would be good because it's tax free, but mostly not. Even if they do, it is 1,40 less then the transportation into the city and back would be.
The most critical point is, that they really hire anyone. So the quality of the tour is very uncertain.
The good guides (I consider myself to be one) will change the company. For me it's a difference, if I gain 57€ fix for 3 hours or 145-250€ depending on the number of guests.
I don't say that the tours are bad or that you shouldn't pay! but keep in mind: The company doesn't know their guides at all! Their motto is, that the guide only has to be "a friend", not a real guide.
If you book, please give tip! Otherwise it's really bad for the guide.
