I honestly cannot believe how unbelievably bad the train system is at Newark Liberty International Airport. This was one of the most confusing and frustrating transportation experiences I’ve had in years.
I live in the U.S. and speak English fluently, and even I could barely understand what was going on. I can’t imagine what a tourist must go through here. The signage is terrible, directions are unclear, and there are almost no useful announcements. Trains arrive with no clear information about where they are going. People are literally standing around asking strangers because nobody understands the system.
At one point the train I was waiting for actually arrived and did not even open its doors. It just passed and left. The next train? 50 minutes later. So you just stand there outside waiting like an idiot because there is no information and no proper communication.
Then I tried to transfer somewhere else to save time. That was even worse. The signs make no sense and when you ask employees for help, they give vague answers like “go to F direction” without explaining where that even is. There is no clear guidance anywhere.
And the best part? You pay $17.50 for this disaster.
So you basically pay a high price to stand around confused, get zero guidance, miss trains, and wait 40–50 minutes because the system provides almost no information.
For a major international airport, this level of disorganization is honestly embarrassing. Terrible signage, terrible communication, and a system that leaves passengers completely lost. It feels like the entire design is meant to confuse people rather than help them get anywhere.
Absolutely unacceptable transportation for an international airport.
