When you buy a product and proceed to shipment, they state 'European delivery only £36'. Pay close attention to the point where you enter your card details. Below that, in small print, there is an 'I agree to the terms and conditions' box regarding extra import taxes, duties, and so on.
At that point, the exact amount a European consumer will have to pay is not made clear. The previous screen says 'European delivery only £36', so you think that is the only price you have to pay.
The result? I ordered a guitar for a total amount of €1,420 (including shipping). However, along with the customs clearance costs, extra shipping fees (if you can believe it), and insurance, the actual cost came to €2,000!!!!!!
The joke continues with two points:
Before shipping the guitar, they sent me a photo showing that the guitar had a small scratch, asking if I still wished to receive it. Truth be told, the scratch wasn’t anything serious; any guitarist knows that’s not a big deal. What impressed me, however, was that they had no shame in selling a scratched guitar as 'brand new' instead of 'B-stock'. A completely unprofessional mindset. Of course, I was the fool for agreeing to receive it in the first place.
While they claim shipping is £36 for European delivery, when I cancelled the order (luckily, I caught it before customs clearance), they tried to intimidate me. They claimed that the shipping and general costs for returning it from Athens to the UK would be very high, and that I should reconsider whether it was worth sending back. I replied that I don’t want a 'brand new' guitar that is scratched for a €2,000 purchase.
I just wanted to get this off my chest. Thank you."
